Getting shutters right on a tilt and turn window
The window opens into the room
Turn the handle level and the whole window swings into the room like a door. The shutter has to sit where the window can swing past it, so we measure how far the window opens and how deep the reveal (the sides of the window opening) is.
Tilt for fresh air
Turn the handle to point upwards and the top of the window tips in a little for fresh air. With the shutters closed, there often isn't room for the window to tilt, so if you like to sleep with it tilted open, tell Matt at the visit and he will check that window.
Where the shutter sits
To open the window fully, the shutters usually need a frame on the wall face, so the panels fold back flat against the wall, clear of the window's swing. If the shutters sit inside the recess, the window may only tilt, not swing fully open. A frame on the wall makes the shutter a little bigger, so it adds a little to the price, and your quote shows it. Matt checks each window and recommends the best way.
The handle
Tilt and turn handles are on the opening side of the window and stand out from the frame. The panels are planned to close clear of it.

Tilt and turn windows: your questions
Can you fit shutters to tilt and turn windows?
Yes. The shutter is placed so the window can swing open past it, and Matt plans each one at the visit.
Do I need to open the shutters before I open the window?
Yes. On a tilt and turn window, fold the shutter panels back first, then tilt or open the window. When you close it again, close the window first, then the shutters.
Can I leave the window tilted with the shutters closed?
Only where the reveal is deep enough for the window to tilt between the glass and the closed shutter. Often it is not. If you like to sleep with the window tilted open, tell Matt at the visit and he will check that window.
