Which suits your doors?
French doors
Usually bi-fold panels that fold back into a small stack at each side, so the doors open freely.
Patio and bi-fold doors
Tracked shutters hang in a track top and bottom and move to the side to clear the doorway.
Sliding doors, tight sides
Bi-pass shutters run on two tracks and slide past each other, with no folding, where there's no room at the side for panels to stack.
Door shutters, explained
Handles, locks and opening space
Door handles and locks stand out further than window handles, and doors need room to swing or slide. At the visit we check the handle, the lock and how far each door opens before anything is made, so nothing catches.
What we check at the visit
Which way the doors open and how far, the handle and lock, the threshold and anything near the doors, such as radiators, sockets or furniture. For sliding and bi-fold doors we also measure the stack of the doors and the space at each side, so the shutters have somewhere to go when they're open.
Bi-fold doors
Bi-fold doors fold back in a stack, and the shutters need somewhere to go too. Tracked shutters move along their own track, so we plan where they sit when they're open, so they don't get in the way of the doors.
Looking after door shutters
Doors get used more than windows, so the hinges and tracks work harder. Wipe the tracks clean now and then, and if anything loosens, ring us. Because we fit them, we fix them (free in the first year; see our guarantee). See every shutter style →
Door shutters: your questions
Can I still use my French doors with the shutters closed?
You fold the shutters back first, then open the doors. On French doors we usually fit bi-fold panels, which fold back into a small stack at each side, out of the way. Matt checks how your doors open and recommends the best way at the visit.
What happens to tracked shutters when I want to use the patio door?
Move the panels along the track to the side, and the doorway is clear. When you want privacy or shade again, slide them back across.
How much do door shutters cost?
Shutters fitted to French doors are priced like windows: a pair of French doors about 1.4 m × 2.1 m costs about £1200 in white, or £1450 in colour, fitted and with VAT included. Tracked shutters for patio and bi-fold doors are the same £400 per square metre (£500 in colour), plus a charge for the track on each door. Your quote shows every part of the price.
